Among all dragonkind, none embody the raw, untempered essence of fire more completely than the Ignivar. Hatched within the volcanic crucibles beneath Aetherreach, they are the living heart of the Dominion's skies. Their scales glow with the heat of creation, their eyes burn like the forge, and their spirits carry the same unyielding intensity that shaped the world's earliest flame.
Through centuries of careful stewardship, the Order of Draconis has sustained the strength of the Ignivar line. Deep beneath the citadel, dragontenders weave enchantments through the Great Nest, keeping the heat that quickens their eggs and hastening the cycle of growth. The Ignivar's bond with humankind is therefore the oldest and the most numerous of all, a partnership founded on courage and mutual respect, and at the Arcanum they bond more students than any other breed.
In battle they are fearless and direct. Their roars kindle the hearts of the soldiers below, and their descent upon the enemy is heralded by a storm of fire. They favor riders who mirror their own valor, those who act without hesitation, who lead charges rather than follow them. When an Ignivar chooses, it chooses with finality, and its loyalty, once given, burns forever.
Characteristics
Physical Attributes
Scales in every shade of red, crimson and maroon and garnet and oxblood, with black-accented horns and scale-tips like edges left in the fire. Their breath can liquefy stone.
Combat Style
Direct and overwhelming. Ignivar strike from the air, break enemy formations with fire, and lead the charge where the fighting is thickest.
Temperament
Proud, volatile, and intensely loyal. Brave to the point of recklessness, daring, and quick to anger.
Size: The size of a one-story house. Roughly twenty feet tall, thirty-five to forty feet from nose to tail, with a wingspan near seventy feet.
Coloration: Bright red through to the deepest oxblood, every shade of flame, accented at the horns and scale-tips with black like burnt edges.
Preferred Terrain: The volcanic heartlands beneath and around Aetherreach, where the heat of the earth never dies.
Signature Ability: Fire enough to melt stone. An Ignivar's breath turns enemy ranks to ash and major threats to ruin, the most direct and devastating offense of any lineage.
Battle Focus
Primary Role: Air support for infantry
Ignivar are the offensive heart of a flight. They burn enemy troops, destroy major threats from above, and clear the sky and the ground ahead of the Dominion's soldiers. Where a battle calls for fire brought down from the air without hesitation, the Ignivar answer first and in the greatest number.
Fearless and direct, they fight at the front of any aerial assault, their fire breaking formations and their roars lifting the courage of every soldier who fights beneath their wings.
Rarity and Population
Status: Common
The Ignivar are the most numerous of all the lineages, the steady and abundant strength of the Order of Draconis. Far more of them serve in the sky than any other breed, and far more remain unbonded and waiting, sustained within the Great Nest beneath Aetherreach. When most people picture a dragon, it is an Ignivar they see: vast, fire-crowned, and unafraid.
Their numbers are no accident. The dragontenders of the Order have tended the Ignivar line for centuries, and at the Arcanum the Ignivar bond more young riders than every other breed combined, the first dragon most initiates ever stand before.
