Proprietor: Master Smith Kael Emberstone
Specialty: Conduits & Gemstones
Special Partner: Pyraxis, a massive scarlet Ignivar dragon who provides the forge fire
Run by Master Smith Kael Emberstone (mid-50s, muscled forearms, leather apron, perpetually singed beard). Kael is gruff but patient with students. He believes in informed choices over quick sales and takes time to explain conduit theory.
The forge is powered by Pyraxis, a scarlet Ignivar dragon visible through the back archway. The partnership is symbiotic: Pyraxis provides the silver-blue dragon fire mixed with Aetherite, while Kael crafts some of the finest conduits in the Dominion.
Where Kael does commissioned pieces. Appointment only. For advanced students or mages seeking specialized conduits.
Reference library on conduit theory and gemstone properties. Where Kael sends serious students to study. Not generally seen by first-years.
Visible through a wide stone archway. Pyraxis's chamber beyond (the source of the forge fire). The flames burn silver-blue (dragon fire mixed with Aetherite). Tools hang on walls, anvils glow with residual heat.
"A poor conduit choice will haunt you for years. Better to understand now."
- Kael Emberstone
The beginner's tool. Made from two components: wood (determines resonance) and core (amplifies Aether).
Woods include: Stormoak (powerful, aggressive), Silverleaf Willow (flexible, intuitive), Goldenheart (noble, pure), and dozens more.
Cores come from magical creatures: Emberfox heartstring (emotional magic), Stormwing feather (weather work), Leviathan scale (ocean power), etc.
Wands have limits; as power grows, they become restrictive.
More powerful and specialized. Built around a single large gemstone at the crown. The wood channels Aether to the gem, which focuses and amplifies significantly. Impressive but impractical for daily use. Most mages use staffs for ritual magic, major workings, or combat.
Most versatile for experienced mages. Rings, amulets, bracers, circlets can all house gemstones. The metal setting channels Aether to the gem.
Different metals have different properties: silver (clarity), gold (raw power), platinum (precision), copper (elemental work). Some mages wear multiple pieces with different gems for different purposes.
For true masters. Some learn to channel directly through gems they carry, no setting needed. Requires exceptional control. Not recommended for students.
Kael believes informed mages make better choices and takes time to explain conduit theory to every student. He views selling as secondary to education, often saying, 'A poor conduit choice will haunt you for years. Better to understand now.'
